Team/Church Name: Catonsville United Methodist Church

Trip dates: 2/17/12 to 2/26/12Team Leader:Linda & Phil Bowman

 

Team members: 55 team members; ages ranging from 11 to mid-80’s. 16 youth and 39 adults. 7 couples, 14 family units of 2 or more. 18 first time missioners. 3 pastors. Majority of team members from Baltimore area, some from California, Virginia, South Carolina, and Indiana. Welcomed back Jessalyn Waddell and Steve Semler who were previously on staff with the Centro Rural Metodista.

Team Projects:

Centro Rural Metodista:

Painted roof and walls of the Pink House

Painted the Comedor bathrooms

Painted the swing set and play equipment

Built stands to support the sinks in Cabin 3

Prepared Cabin 4 roof for removal

Organized wood piles in the barn

Taught crocheting to local women

Taught sewing to local women

El Mirador:

Tiled the kitchen counter

Rebuilt and refinished several tables.

Catonsville youth taught drama/mime to El Mirador youth leaders.

Quesada Methodist School:

Tiling of new bathroom facilities.

Quesada Special School:

Painted several new murals.

Santa Rita:

Pressure washed roof of church

Painted walls

Building walls for new education building. Conducted Bible School for 300+ children at San Francisco, Santa Rita, and El Mirador.

What was gained from the experience? Sharing of faith within team and with local people; sense of peace and fulfillment in doing God’s work; recommitment and re-energizing of faith; renewal of old friendships; appreciation and understanding of cultural differences.

Church’s history with Centro Rural Metodista: Members of this team have been coming to the Centro Rural Metodista as volunteers for over 20 years. The Catonsville VIM team has a long history of year-round support to the center. Jessalyn Waddell, member of Catonsville United Methodist Church and daughter of Pastor Mark Waddell has a long relationship as missionary intern at Centro Rural Metodista.

Special thanks to Mary and Marion for their selfless and untiring faith and support. Many thanks to Jimmy, Alissa, and Molly for their help throughout the week.
