Team Reflection Form

Team/Church Name: Lafayette United Methodist Church, Lafayette, California

Trip dates: Feb 25-March 3, 2012
Team Leader: Joe Darrell

Team members: Four members of the Lafayette United Methodist Church joined with the Rockville Presbyterian Church, Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina, to form a team of  approximately 25 for a week of work and spiritual retreat.

Team Project:(what and where):   Our team helped enlarge a house so that the single mother Beatriz, who was our cook at the camp, could better provide for her daughter and son.  We dug footings, laid rebar, and moved tons of rock and cinder blocks.  In this was we expressed Christ’s love for our wonderful Costa Rica cocinera.{mosimage}
    Our team also added a bathroom to a church in Santa Rita,  repaired kitchen counters in the community center in nearby El Mirador, and began work (to be finished by other teams) on an addition to a house in Monte Horeb.  We helped improve facilities at the camp, including putting a new roof on one of the sleeping cabins.
What was gained from the experience?:  We had a week during which we served the Lord by helping needy people in Costa Rica.  We were also able to get away from our everyday lives at home and focus on strengthening our relationship with God.{mosimage}
Church’s history with Centro Rural Metodista: Team leader Joe Darrell first joined teams at El Centro Rural Metodista as an individual missioner in 2007 and again in 2008.  In 2009 he was joined by other members of his California church, who since then have combined with the South Carolina team to be of use in Costa Rica.
